Oenothera macrocarpa are native to the USA. A lovely, low growing, spreading plant, renown for its use in Evening Primrose Oil. Very fragrant large, solitary, single, mildly fragrant, bright yellow flowers are produced over a long period. The flowers, as the common name suggests, only open for one day, usually during late afternoon and remain open until the following morning. The flowers grow from leaf axils and are generally upward facing, occasionally they touch the ground. Noticeable for the long spring to summer bloom period. Flowers are followed by somewhat unique, winged seed pods, and the narrow, lance shaped grey green leaves are also attractive. Should be planted in full sun and in moist to dry locations. Tolerant of dry and chalky soils. A super plant in clumps or as part of a mixed planting in a dry border or rockery. Can be planted in a pot or other container. Use a good quality compost and ensure you feed regularly as a hungry plant is a poor performer. We recommend Osmocote pro 5-6 month applied in the early spring. One application gives all the nutrients the plant requires for the whole year.
